About Charleston RC Society

The Charleston RC Society, AMA Charter #586 has been the leading flying model club in the Charleston SC area for over 40 years. A number of the founding members of the club are still active and fly weekly. The membership includes a wide spectrum of flying experience and skills. Our membership is generally between 80 and 100 pilots. Flying occurs year round and all days of the week. We have the occasional night flying session as well.

We have club funded and scheduled cookouts at least twice a year and at least 3 additional impromptu cook outs thrown together and funded by members on short notice. These usually spring up around national holidays. We have a large grill and like to use it whenever we can. In addition we will sometimes schedule funfly events before or after the picnic.

We welcome all types and sizes of aircraft except turbines. CRCS is a helicopter, quadcopter and sailplane friendly club. Our runway is beautifully maintained grass. Its 900' long and 200' wide. The field is enclosed on all sides by trees, but the unobstructed flying area is over 1000' feet long and 400' wide.

The field is maintained in its pristine state by our very dedicated Field Marshall and his volunteers. Weather permitting during the growing season the grass is cut each Thursday. No flying is permitted while the field is being cut.
