SAFETY REPORT:

David Lutzow was flying when he lost radio contact with his plane. He tried to bring it down in the field but was unable to control it. The plane crashed into another member’s vehicle causing about eight thousand dollars in damages to the pickup truck. Radio interference is suspected.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Gerry Higdon reported that because of the recent rain, he had not been able to get the grass cut, but would be cutting it within a few days.

OLD BUSINESS:

The trees have been topped out and now we need to have a couple of work days to drag all of the cuttings back into the woods.  A work day was planned for Thursday.

Frank Metzger gave a final rundown of plans for entrance to the Air Force Base Open House. This was the last chance to sign up to help out at the show.  Details of gaining entrance to the field to unload planes and directions on where to park will be sent to those who signed up by email. Frank will not be able to escort the flyers onto the field as he has to be in a meeting at the same time club members should be arriving.

The Train Show which is scheduled for the same day now has about four people signed up to help out on Saturday. This event is not restricted so if you have time to spare, you are welcome to Danny Jones/Armory Park on Mixon Ave. in North Charleston to help out.

Our Club Picnic and 50 year anniversary on April 21st will be fully catered with Barbeque and sides. The caterer will also provide all of the plates, flatware, etc. If anyone wishes to bring something, deserts will be welcome.

NEW BUSINESS:

Our club has been asked to participate again this year in the STEM Camp for the Cub Scouts. It will be held at the McCellanville AME Church from June 4 – 8 and we have been asked to help on one or two days. More on this as it get closer.

Manny Bier, host of Bier-ly Pulling, told our club officers that our club is welcome to use his field to fly on year round. We can either use the one set aside for us during the tractor pull or use the tractor pull area. Both are available.

SHOW AND TELL:

Capt. Morgan brought in a plane he got from Motion RC.  When he started working with it, he found that there was a bad servo in the landing gear. After replacing the servo, everything worked fine.

Marty Chesler donated several kits he had in storage the he has decided not to build. The club will be able to take them to a swap meet to sell.  The sale price will be donated to the treasury.

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

While several others were nominated for Crash of the Month, it was almost a foregone conclusion that David Lutzow would get the prize because of the damage to his plane and to the pickup truck.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:48. Next meeting will be on May 7th, 2018 at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
