MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING:

The minutes from the July meeting were presented and accepted by the members present.

TREASURERS REPORT:

The July treasurer’s report was presented and accepted by the members present. Kevin McGrady has rejoined the club.

SAFETY REPORT:

  • Eddy Corbin is flying again with an adapted radio. He is still in therapy but has a good attitude.
  • Bob Mason is in the hospital recovering from a stroke. His prognosis is good.

TRAINING:

No new updates on new pilot training.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

With all of the rain we have had, the parking area at the field is very soggy.  The field is too wet to mow, so the grass is high.  The south end of the field is very bad.  If it dries out, the field crew will try to get it mowed before the weekend.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • A motion was made and carried to table talks of a breakfast or picnic until later this year. We may be able to schedule something in the fall when it is cooler.
  • Planes and kits have been donated by a couple of our members for the club to auction or raffle off.  Tickets will be sold from now to December and a drawing will be done at the December meeting. Ticket prices are: 6 tickets for $5.00; 25 for $20.00; or 125 tickets for $100.00.  Ed Yeash is heading up the ticket sales until Bob Mason is able to take over again.
  • In addition, Dave Schonhut’s widow has asked the club to sell off his planes. Pictures of these planes are on the website. (Dave passed away May 18)  He put a lot of money into these planes and they are well worth taking a look at. The funds generated will be given to Mrs. Schonhut to help with medical and funeral expenses.
  • Plans are well in hand for our club to participate at the Beauford Air Show on April 22 & 23, 2019.  If you have any questions, contact Frank Metzger.

NEW BUSINESS:

The Heritage Museum at 101 Ridge Street in St. George will be hosting a “Model Train & Radio Control” event on September 22, 2018 from 10 AM – 2 PM. Our club has been invited to put on static and flight demonstrations. We will also have the simulators available.

SHOW AND TELL:

The only planes presented for “Show and Tell” this month were a couple of Dave Schonhut’s. We also had pictures of several of his planes that will be put on our website.

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

We only had two nominees this month.  Charlie Carter ripped out the landing gear from the underside of his plane and Joe Quagilato was flying his Apprentice when it suddenly decided to do barrel roll on its own. After doing several beautiful roll, it spun in.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:40. Next meeting will be on September 3rd, 2018(Labor Day) at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
