FEB 2015 CRCS CLUB MEETING MINUTES

Gavel

The meeting was called to order by club President Ed Yeash at 7PM at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Rd Summerville, SC. There were 25 members in attendance.

MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING

Minutes from the last meeting were accepted as posted on the club website per the Secretary Bob Call. They are available for review here.

TREASURERS REPORT

Treasurer Bob Mason read the treasures report and it was accepted by the membership. The treasurers report is available on the members area of the website. It was noted that the payment for the porta-potty was double what it normally is because the club missed payment one month in the Fall.

SAFETY REPORT

Safety Coordinator Bud Gehr had no safety issues to report at the field, but cautioned members about LiPo battery reduced capacity due to cold weather, not storing them on a full charge and the safety issue of storage in unvented enclosed containers. A failed battery could cause an explosion if it ruptures with no means to vent the pressure in the storage container.

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Field Marshall Gerry Higdon had no new field maintenance information to report. Field maintenance is minimal at this time of year and no cutting or trimming is needed.

OLD BUSINESS

TRAINING COMMITTEE REPORT

Richard Guthrie has put together some basic training requirements for board review and has contacted several members to act as instructors. He brought up the need to separate the pilot qualification requirements from the club by-laws due to the constant changing nature of aircraft, technology and the relatively difficult task of revising and approving by-law changes.

PERMANENT CLUB PO Box

The club president Ed Yeash has acquired a PO Box for the club. The address is: Charleston RC Society P.O. Box 81 Ridgeville, SC 29472

NEW CHAIRS

The club purchased 5 new Adirondack chairs and they are available for immediate use at the field.  Several members chimed in that while the Adirondack chairs are sturdy, there is a need for chairs that are easier to get out of. The club will look into purchasing additional chairs in the spring when sales kick off. Different types will be evaluated.

NEW BUSINESS

AMA RENEWAL

President Ed Yeash reported that we have over 20 members that are on the club roster that have not renewed their AMA membership for 2015. If you have not renewed you are not permitted to fly at CRCS. Starting in April the club will require you to display your AMA card and club membership card in a club provided clip-on card holder. See Ed to get yours free.

CRASH OF THE MONTH TROPHY

Lancer Keeling made a motion that Crash of the Month include a trophy that the winner would have possession of until the next monthly selection. The motion was carried. Lancer donated a large wooden propeller with genuine J3 Cub instrument panel clock in the hub to act as the roving trophy.

NEW MEMBERS

The President announced that the club has 4 new members this month. Please put out a hand and welcome the new folks when you see then at the field.

CONTROL LINE SITE STATUS

Some discussion was raised on the status of the control line area of the field. The area has fallen under disrepair and very little activity has been noted there. The shelter cover has disintegrated. Several ideas were raised for alternative uses for the space. Everything from RC cars to a park flyer area to just letting the grass cover it up. The land owner does not want RC cars run on the property and until the club can determine if there are still Control line flyers that need the area the matter will be tabled for the next board meeting.

MEMBERS ONLY CLUB WEBSITE ACCESS

Bud Gehr announced that the club website now has a members only area that is secured by login and password. Currently the clubs monthly treasury report is stored there. It will also be the source for members to access the membership roster. The club secretary is building a new roster and once it is finished it will be placed on the members only site.

To gain access contact Bud via the Contact tab on the website. He will verify your email address and then send you the login information. The email address you use must be the same one you provided the club when you joined. The button to login is labeled Member Login and is located on the bottom left side of the main News page.

CRASH OF THE MONTH

This month starts a new tradition in the CRCS crash of the month with the award of a trophy for the winner to display proudly on their mantle until giving it up to the next monthly winner. There were several candidates for this honor:

  • Patrick Hill with a dirt napped 450 helicopter.
  • Paul Adams with the low altitude demise of his Mosquito Bomber.
  • Bob Call and his large quad vanishing act.

The winner was Bob Call. Bob lost site of his quad due to a mild case of quad yaw disorientation and it flew until the battery gave up the ghost. Bob was unable to locate the quad so it is very likely it ended up on the island of misfit toys. Bob be sure and wind the clock on that trophy prop!
