MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING:

The minutes from the June meeting were presented and accepted by the members present.

TREASURERS REPORT:

The June treasurer’s report was presented and accepted by the members present.

SAFETY REPORT:

Safety tip: when testing an engine, remove the propeller to avoid damage to arms and hands.  By this time, everyone will have heard about our club member who lost three fingers and had to have about 300 stiches in his arm because the engine he was working on overpowered the restraints he was using. Safety First should be practiced.

TRAINING:

Steve had his first training sessions flying the Apprentice.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

The field committee said they had nothing much to report. They had to replace a tire on the big mower and decided that a Steel gas powered leaf blower would be the best for use at the field. They already had approval for the purchase, so it is now part of our equipment.

OLD BUSINESS:

Discussions about having a breakfast or picnic were tabled until the August meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Planes, and kits have been donated by a couple of our members for the club to auction or raffle off.  Tickets will be sold from now to December and a drawing will be done at the December meeting. Ticket prices are: 6 tickets for $5.00; 25 for $20.00; or 125 tickets for $100.00. For more information about the equipment being raffled, come to a club meeting or contact Bob Mason.

UPCOMING FLYING EVENTS:

Lake City will be hosting a Giant Warbird fly-in on August 3rd and 4th.

SHOW AND TELL:

Capt. Morgan showed off a new 3-D bi-plane that took him 14 ½ hours to put together. He said the directions were not in any language he knew, and an English translation was not available on line.  Gary Quiring brought in the fuselage for his 13 foot glider that crashed last month. He explained the technique he used to put it back together and said that he found out that, unlike gliders that ride thermals, this one needed to keep its speed up. He let it get too slow and it snapped.

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

We had three nominees and an Honorable Mention for this award.

Capt. Morgan crashed his Predator Drone on its maiden flight.

Ed Yeash was working with Cool Ray from the Stingrays on the buddy box when he crashed during the STEM camp for the Boy Scouts. According to witnesses, the Scouts loved it. He also crashed his ParkZone® Conscendo. Needless to say, Ed won.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:40. Next meeting will be on August 6th, 2018 at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
