TREASURERS REPORT:

The June treasurer’s report was accepted presented by Treasurer.

SAFETY REPORT:

Dave Brown was absent. Ed reported that communication in the flight boxes were going very well. Pilots are notifying each other of their intentions and flite patterns so there were no problems to discuss. Every one need to remember to stay hydrated because of the heat.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Mike McGee reported that the field is in good condition, the grass is nice and green; the equipment is in good condition and working properly. Only one issue: someone dumped a crib and mattress at the field that had to be hauled away to the dump. Every thing looks great, like a picture post card.

TRAINING:

Ed’s trainee is doing great. Robert Goldsberry was not present to report on his trainee.

OLD BUSINESS:

Two new all-in-one computers to be used as Flight Simulators have been purchased. The software will be uploaded to these computers before our next event.

Frank Metzger, Richard Jackson, and Robert Brooks volunteered to help out on June 12th, at the Palmetto District Boy Scouts summer day camp at the Elks Club on Sam Rittenberg. Due to continuous rain scheduled for that day, only Frank and Richard were able to make it to the event. The Elks Club provided indoor space for the day camp because of the rain.

NEW BUSINESS:

Our club has been invited to participate in the Young Eagles event with a static display and flite simulators in August.

We have also been invited to put on a demonstration at Camp Ho Non Wah on October 12th.

Gooney Birds at Florence SC Fly-in on June 7th, has been moved to July 27th because of bad weather.

Flying Tigers will host Giant Scale Warbird Fly-in August 2 – 4 in Scranton SC

Jay Marshal, a long time club member who has not been active because of bad health, passed away June 8th. The club sent a sympathy card to his family. Richard and Elaine attended the funeral.

SHOW AND TELL:

Robert Brooks brought in a pontoon plane that he said was based on a crop duster from the cartoon movie “Cars” and a red bi-plane. He also brought in the carbon fiber frame of a drone aircraft that he had folded flat for transport. When he unfolded it, the craft was about three feet across. He did not have the props and engines on it at the time.

RAFFLE TICKETS:

Raffle tickets are still being sold for the 76 inch wingspan Laser 200 Aeroworks plane built by Bill Tuxworth. The drawing will be at the December meeting. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

Robert Goldsberry crashed two aircraft within an hour.

One of our new members, Brian Hemmersbach, was testing an airplane for a friend who planned to take it to a desert country when he deployed. Because of where he planned to fly it, the Verizon hobbies plane was equipped with about $25 thousand in add on equipment and programs. The only problem was, Brian got the toss wrong and launched it straight into the ground where it exploded on impact. There were pieces all over the field.

The vote of the members present awarded the Worst Crash to Robert G. for his two crashes.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:27 PM. Next meeting will be on August 5th. 2019 at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
