BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT WERE:

President: Ed Yeash

Vice President: Richard Jackson

Treasurer: Bob Mason

Secretary: Elaine Jackson

Safety Officer: Dave Brown (Absent)

Field Officer: Gerry Higdon

Members at Large: Bob Call, Roy Leopold, Bill Evans

There were 18 members present.

NEW MEMBERS/ GUEST:

Our guest was Charlie Tenio (many of us met Charlie at the club picnic)

MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING:

The minutes from the April meeting were presented and accepted by the members present.

TREASURERS REPORT:

The treasurer’s report was presented and accepted by the members present.

SAFETY REPORT:

An un-named flyer was spotted using sandbags to hole his airplane while the fine-tuned the engine. This is dangerous because the sandbags could slip or the pull of the engine overpower the sandbags causing unexpected movement of the plane.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Gerry Higdon reported that the cutting volunteers (Gerry, Mike & Greg) agreed to move the mowing date to Wednesday instead of Thursday because of various conflicts of other activities. The mowing is usually completed by noon since they start at 8:30 am.

With the warmer weather, snakes are more active now, so be careful when in the woods.

OLD BUSINESS:

A lot of the smaller debris from the tree topping has been moved back into the woods. Ed is still holding onto the additional money promised to the tree trimmer crew who promised to bring out a chipper to take care of the rest of the debris.  They were unable to rent the chipper for the weekend as they had planned because someone else was using it.  As soon as the job is finished, they will be paid.

Our club will be participating again this year in the STEM Camp for the Cub Scouts on June 6th. It will be held at the McCellanville AME Church at 2818 N. Highway 17.

NEW BUSINESS:

No new business this month.

SHOW AND TELL:

Gary Quiring brought in a “dolly” that he built to transport his new glider that he has been working on. He also told us about the Blank X transmitter from Open Source, that can be programed by each individual flyer.

Captain Morgan Brooks brought in a foam Zero that he converted to radio control and a beautiful OB-10 U-built that he has decorated to match a full size that flies out of the Walterboro airport.

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

Robert Goldsberry was nominated for crashing his Cessna, but John Mellis won for crashing two large gas planes on the same weekend.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:48. Next meeting will be on June 4th, 2018 at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
