Vice President: Richard Jackson

Treasurer, Robert (Capt. Morgan) Brooks;

Secretary: Elaine Jackson

Safety Officer: Dave Brown

Field Officer: Mike McGee

Members at Large: Bob Mason, Roy Leopold, Bill Evans

There were 23 members present.

NEW MEMBERS/ GUEST:

Two new member attended this meeting Vergil O’Bryant and Art O’Bryant (may be same person) If you see them at the field, introduce yourself.

We also had two ladies as guest; Gladys O’Bryant and Jackie Ray.

MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING:

The minutes from the April meeting were accepted by the members present.

TREASURERS REPORT:

The April treasurer’s report was accepted presented by Treasurer. Treasurer passed out membership cards to any members present who did not already have them.

SAFETY REPORT:

Dave Brown reminded the club to always be sure the props are tight so they don’t come off when the engine is started. Also, never stand in front of the plane to adjust the idle. If what you are using to hold the plane gives way, the plane will go right into you. Props need to be balanced both horizontally and vertically before being use. It will pay to invest in a balancer.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Mike McGee reported that the field is in good condition, the new Geo-Tech is down. Someone painted a white stripe down the middle of the Geo-Tech, but since the stripe is crooked, no one will admit to doing it.

There is a brand new Porta-Let in place, complete with hand sanitizer.  The company has agreed to clean it out weekly and replace it once every year on January 1st. The cost will be $107.00 a month as usual.

PAST EVENTS:

Ed thanked everyone who helped with the recent events: the Geo-Tech, the train show and the Picnic..

TRAINING:

Art O’Bryant will be our next adult student.

At the picnic, Ed buddy-boxed 9 children. They kept him busy most of the afternoon.

OLD BUSINESS:

The Boy Scout Car Show is coming up soon. Small Park Flyers will be able to fly. We will also have two flite simulators available for people to try. If we are going to have people flying at that location, we need to get an AMA Sanction for the use of the field so we will have insurance coverage. Motion made and passed to do this.

Patrick Cotton brought up the question of whether a pilot who qualifies in “safe mode” should have to qualify in “regular flight” before being allowed to solo. This question was tabled until it can be brought before a Board Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

May 18th, our club will host at least one troop of Boy Scouts who will be working on earning Merit badges for flying. Simulators will be available. We would also appreciate anyone who has a Buddy box bringing it out to let as many boys get a chance to fly as possible.

Gooney Birds at Florence will have a fly in June 8th with a raffle.

Richard White will be having an EAA event at the Orangeburg Airport. They will be taking Boy Scouts and others up in airplanes as part of their Flight Merit Badge program. If you have kids or grandkids and would like to join in contact Richard White for details.

We have lost two club members recently: David Lutzow in March and Mike Redman in April.

SHOW AND TELL:

Al Syssa showed off his 13 pound, scratch built plane built out of plywood, balsa and foam .

Werner Roos found a new adhesive on the internet. It is a liquid plastic that bonds within three seconds. Bondia – Laser Liquid bond sells for around $30.00 which includes shipping and handling.
