MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING:

The minutes from the August meeting were presented and accepted by the members present.

TREASURERS REPORT:

Before the Treasurers report was given, our Bob Mason announced his resignation from the office because of health reasons. Since there are only a few months left in the year, Ed Yeash will cover the position until the December election. If you are able to work with the club in this position, please contact Ed.

The August treasurer’s report was presented and accepted by the members present.

SAFETY REPORT:

Since Dave Brown was absent because of a death in his family, Ed Yeash gave the Safety Report.

Dave Hemstrough lost control of his airplane which went into a field neighbor’s yard and into her garage window.

There was a FAA report of a model/full scale near collision in Hollywood Florida. Reminder: Models should always yield to any full size planes.

FIELD MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Because of all of the rain, the Field Committee had to “cut twice to mow once”. The grass was over 8 inches high.

Plugs on the small mower blew out and had to be replaced.

Mr. Baily wants the fence fixed. This will be an October Expense.

Mr. Baily has been LOCKED IN at the field a couple of times lately. If you are the last one out – look around.  IF A SHED DOOR IS OPEN, DON’T LOCK THE GATE.

TRAINING:

Two new trainees, Steve and Don are getting “refresher” training.

OLD BUSINESS:

Picnic scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd.  Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served.

Three members of the club have volunteered to put on static and flight demonstrations at the Heritage Museum at 101 Ridge Street in St. George during their “Model Train & Radio Control” event on September 22, 2018 from 10 AM – 2 PM.

Don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets for the December drawing. Ticket prices are: 6 tickets for $5.00; 25 for $20.00; or 125 tickets for $100.00.  Ed Yeash is heading up the ticket sales. Some great planes will be raffled off at the December meeting.

Check out the website for information on the planes Dave Schonhut’s widow has asked the club to sell. The funds generated will be given to Mrs. Schonhut to help with the medical and funeral expenses.

Plans are well in hand for our club to participate at the Beauford Air Show on April 22 & 23, 2019.  If you have any questions, contact Frank Metzger.

NEW BUSINESS:

Motion made and passed to officially make Ed the temporary Treasurer.

The Model Railroad club has again invited us to have a demonstration at their fall show. As usual, it will be on the same day as the Bair-ly-Pulling tractor pull so we will need volunteers for both.

SHOW AND TELL:

Once again Capt. Morgan brought in a new plane. He says this is number 285. It is a Mini Conversance, vertical take-off and landing plane. He got it for $199 from Verizon Hobbies and has had it in the air for eight minutes.

CRASH OF THE MONTH:

Charlie Tenio crashed his Fun Jet

Art Smith had a tree grab his Ugly Stick

Patrick Cotton lost his PT-17 and made a gear-up landing with his Corsair, breaking a prop.

* Dave Hemstrough took the prize with his plane hitting the garage next door to the field and breaking the window.

MEETING ADJOURNED:

Meeting adjourned at 7:48. Next meeting will be on October 1st, 2018 at Perkins Restaurant located at 1700 Trolley Road, Summerville, SC.
